Leading others effectively begins with leading yourself.
Here is a list of my eight favourite books related to personal leadership and influence. Each of these leadership books has played a significant role in my development and success. If you want to make a serious investment in yourself, why not slow read (or re-read) one of the below?
Extreme Ownership - Jocko Willink & Leif Babin. The best leadership book I've read in decades.
The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People - Stephen Covey. Released in 1989, it's powerful today as it was then. Slow-read this one. It's deep and meaningful.
Mindset - Carol Dweck. An excellent book on the power of mindset.
Man's Search for Meaning - Viktor Frankl. This self-leadership book is about the gap between stimulus and response. We have the power to choose our response.
How to Win Friends and Influence People - Dale Carnegie. The best manual for working well with other human beings.
Influence - Robert Cialdini. The most famous book on the skill of influencing others, and for a good reason.
Who Moved My Cheese - Spencer Johnson. A simple and powerful story about how to deal effectively with change.
The Inner Game of Tennis - W. Timothy Gallwey. Great book on how the judgemental ego-mind gets in our way, and what to do about it.
Those are the top 8 leadership books that I've read over and over again. What's the best book you've read that has helped you lead yourself and others better?
